The Global Computing Lab (GCLab), in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Tennessee has an open position for a Research Manager 1. The GCLab, headed by Dr. Michela Taufer, focuses on various aspects of high-performance computing (HPC) and its application to the sciences. GCLab engages in the design and testing of efficient computational algorithms and adaptive scheduling policies for scientific computing on GPUs, cloud computing, and volunteer computing. RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position provides administrative leadership in creating, developing, carrying out, and communicating research program directives, including support in coordinating with university, national, and international organizations. The position duties include leadership, staff management, proposal development, strategic planning, and project development.


Qualifications :

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A PhD with experience in providing outreach and communicating research results in a technical setting is required. Knowledge required includes proficiency in project management principles, and the research management process including proposal submission, project planning, communicating results of research, outreach to underserved communities, and final reporting.

Background in at least one of the following areas is preferred: high performance computing, parallel and distributed computing, machine learning, or data analytics.

The successful candidate will possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time appropriately. The candidate will work both independently and as part of a team and should be a self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects and activities, while helping to further the expansion of the GCLab.

The candidate must be able to work and communicate effectively with faculty, research assistants / associates, administrative assistants, students and other GCLab personnel.
