We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Community Reporter to cover the news and events in LaPlace, La. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in community life, police activities, local government, schools, school board meetings, and local sports. The Community Reporter will be responsible for gathering information, conducting interviews, and writing stories that reflect the happenings in the LaPlace area.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend community events, city council meetings, police briefings, school board meetings, and local sports games to gather news and information
  • Conduct interviews with local residents, officials, coaches, and community leaders
  • Write clear, concise stories that inform and engage the community
  • Collaborate with co-workers to ensure accurate and timely coverage of events
  • Use social media and other online platforms to promote and share stories with the community
  • Adhere to journalistic ethics and standards in all reporting activities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of AP style and journalistic principles
  • Familiarity with online publishing platforms and social media
  • Previous experience in journalism or reporting is preferred, but not required
